Ward emerges as a unifying force—a dedicated advocate ready to lead Ward 5 into a brighter future. With profound roots in this vibrant community, Maurice is a devoted father of three adult children and a proud member of the Northside Justice Impacted Individuals community, advocating for social justice and equity for all.
Maurice's journey in public service began as a high school student, where he campaigned for President of African American Studies, sparking a lifelong commitment to community advocacy. Through the years, he has grown from a passionate student leader into a seasoned advocate, particularly focused on the needs of those facing homelessness and the intricacies of the criminal justice system.
As the founder of Justice Impacted Individuals Voting Effectively (JIIVE), Maurice has championed the voices of Justice-Impacted Individuals, ensuring they are seen, heard, and empowered. His role as a Community Recovery Peer Specialist Supervisor (CRPS(S)) further exemplifies his commitment to uplifting individuals facing the challenges of reintegration into society, as he mentors and supports them on their paths to recovery.
Maurice’s academic accomplishments bolster his ability to serve as a community leader. With a Master’s degree in Advocacy and Political Leadership and a pursuit of advanced education in Sociology, including a Master’s and Ph.D., he is equipped with a deep understanding of the social fabric that connects us all. Coupled with 25 years of entrepreneurial experience, his skills in sales, marketing, and finance are tailored for fostering economic growth and empowering local businesses.
In his candidacy for city council, Maurice envisions a Northside where every resident thrives, regardless of their housing status or background. Over the past two years, he has tirelessly advocated for progressive policies that bring real, lasting benefits to Justice-Impacted Individuals, those experiencing homelessness, and individuals in recovery. His vision is inclusive, emphasizing collaboration and understanding among all community members.
