Maurice L. Ward is a candidate for the City Council in the 2025 election, exemplifying resilience and community empowerment. He is committed to fostering unity and collaboration within the community to create a more equitable future. As the Executive Director of Justice Impacted Individuals Voting Effectively and a member of the Minnesota State Arts Board, Maurice has a strong background in civic engagement and leadership. A cum laude graduate of Bemidji State University, he has held various leadership roles, including former DFL Chair, and is actively involved with the Justice Equity Coalition and the National Protected Class Network. Beyond advocacy, Maurice is a playwright, author, spoken word performer, and community journalist, with extensive experience as a Community Peer Recovery Specialist Supervisor. He is also a U.S. Navy veteran, recognized for his service with the Desert Storm Medal and other honors. M

Symoné Hudson is the Outreach Director for the Maurice Ward campaign. A Nashville native, she has lived in Minnesota for 12 years, many of those in North Minneapolis. Symoné is passionate
about helping others and volunteers for various organizations. She lives by the quote, "Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?'" attributed to Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. She currently works as a Training Instructional Designer in the financial industry and is completing her degree in Human Resource Management at Metro State University, where she also serves as the Black Student Union President.
